Joys of Living in Tornado Alley
Category: ChitChatI’m Australian, we don’t get Tornadoes. I’m still finding it strange having to come to grips with the fact our house can be ripped apart by something that comes out of a “simple” thunderstorm.
In Sydney we get thunderstorms. Happens all the time. They are spectactular and you have to be a little cautious so that you aren’t struck by lightning but your chance of dying in one is pretty slim.
Not so here in the Ozarks, on the edge of Tornado Alley. We live in Harrison but for the moment are working in Bentonville. We get to watch a lot of weather channel here at the moment, what with La Nina lurking just south of us sending great weather spinning up the Alley.
Apparently with the weather systems hanging around, and not going anywhere , at the moment. All the weather good and bad, mostly bad, is just funneled up from south west US up to the north east.
It makes for some interesting times and the occasional stint in the neighbours storm cellar if we’re at home or huddled in an inside closest if we’re at the apartment.
With the latest storm killing at least 22 people over the weekend, we have to take this seriously. It’s just new to me and seems a little surreal.
We may not be in Kansas, toto, but if we’re not careful we could be blown all the way to Oz.
Keep your head down,
Shane
